Classification of italian national territory into climatic zones independent from their geographical location in order to limit the energy consumption by heating plants

The table shows for each climatic zone (A-F) the period in the year and the maximum number of hours per day when heating plants can be switched on. In caso of severe weather each municipality may permit heating in different periods. The degree-day is the unit used to assign a climatic zone to each municipality: it is the sum, extended to all days in a conventional annual heating period, of positive differences between interior temperature (conventionally fixed at 20°C) and the mean daily external temperature. As an example the table shows the climatic zones of all municipalities which are chieftown of their province: for all other 8100 italian municipalities please consult the proper page.

This subject is ruled by Decreto del Presidente della Repubblica 26/08/1993 n. 412, published in Gazzetta Ufficiale n. 242 of 14/10/1993, Supplemento Ordinario n. 96 and subsequent modifications and integrations
